Hommage a Roland Dyens
for alto recorder and guitar
This composition was written in memory of the guitarist Roland Dyens who participated in the 2011 Guitar Gems Festival in Israel. It is dedicated to Duo Nihz, who commissioned the work.
The composition is based on Jewish themes. The first movement is "Kaddish," a prayer of praise for God also recited for the memory of the deceased. The second movement is based on a litrugical genre of the songs of the Jews of Spanish origian, sung in the synagogue but also at nonliturgical events.
