Polish Dance is Severn's Best-known work. Written in the style of a mazurka, it is an invitation to this dance form with its distinctive local color. This single movement work is in the melodic form of a Rondo with the lively opening theme returning after each new melodic interlude. Ritardandos and rubatos add rhythmic spice; wide leaps, double stops and three-note chords ensure delightful melodic and harmonic turns. Expressive dynamics lend energy to this "Polish Dance."
